Eating Disorders Treatment: Emotion-Focused Family Therapy(EFFT)/Emotion-Focused Therapy-Family (EFT-F)

3 Day Training

This 3-day training will delve deeply into intervention strategies, focusing on Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) as a treatment approach for eating disorders.  EFFT is a transdiagnostic treatment model that was initially developed as a treatment for eating disorders, combining the principles of Family Based Therapy (FBT), with Emotion-Focused Therapy to harness the healing power of families and caregivers.  Within this lifespan approach the therapist’s role is to empower and support parents and caregivers in mastering the skills, tasks, and feelings involved in four main domains:

  1. Becoming their child’s behaviour coach, by assisting their loved one – regardless of age – in the interruption of symptoms such as restriction, bingeing, purging, and problematic exercise
  1. Becoming their child’s emotion coach, that is supporting their loved one to approach, process and manage stress, emotions and emotional pain, making symptoms unnecessary to cope
  1. Facilitating therapeutic apology and healing possible wounds from the child and family’s past in order to help loved ones to let go of the weight of old injuries, and
  1. Working through and resolving the fears and obstacles that surface in the caregiver during this challenging and novel journey.

This training will provide certificates that can be used toward certification in EFFT (https://efftinternational.org) and EFT-F (https://www.iseft.org).
