Dr. Katherine Henderson, Psychologist

Co-Founder and Co-Director

she/her

I am the co-founder and co-director of Anchor Psychological Services, where I have the privilege of working with children, youth, adults, and families facing a wide range of concerns. My areas of focus include eating disorders, body image, depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, and self-criticism. I draw on evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Emotion-Focused approaches including EFT, EFFT, and trauma-informed stabilization treatment (TIST). Each treatment plan is thoughtfully tailored to meet the unique needs of every individual and family.

At the heart of my work is a deep belief in the inherent strength and resilience of people. I am committed to creating a safe, supportive space where therapy can foster hope, healing, emotional transformation, and lasting growth. I affirm and celebrate neurodivergent experiences, gender diversity, and queer identities. I value the healing power of families and the importance of a strong therapeutic relationship. With compassion, creativity, humour, and persistence, I strive to support clients in achieving meaningful and sustainable change.

I have been a registered psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts since 2001. I obtained my Ph.D. from York University in 2000. Prior to co-founding Anchor Psychological Services, I was Clinical Director and Lead for Research and Program Evaluation for the Regional Eating Disorders Program for children and youth at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) for ten years. At CHEO, I specialized in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders and associated mood and anxiety disorders. I am also an adjunct research professor at Carleton University.

I am active in providing training and consultation to other health care professionals. I am a certified trainer and supervisor in Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy-Family (EFT-F) and provide trainings with Dr. Shari Mayman, C. Psych., regionally and internationally. I also provide training in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders across the lifespan. Along with Drs. Shari Mayman and Adele Lafrance, I co-authored the clinician manual for EFFT: Emotion-Focused Family Therapy: A transdiagnostic model for caregiver-focused interventions (2019).
