About Us
The Origins of Anchor Psychological Services
Anchor Psychological Services was founded in 2013 by two Ottawa psychologists: Drs. Katherine Henderson and Shari Mayman. Having worked together in the hospital system with children, youth, and families, Dr. Mayman and Dr. Henderson wanted to bring services into the community that would extend to adults, and include caregivers across the lifespan. Their focus was on bringing together a team of professionals to provide excellent, evidence-based, compassionate care across a wide range of problems and populations, and to become a hub of assessment, treatment, and training in the specific areas of anxiety and mood disorder, eating disorders, neurodiversity, learning issues, and emotion-focused family-based intervention.
Everyone is Welcome Here
Our practice is a safe and affirming space for individuals of all races, ethnicities, cultures, spiritualities, genders, sexual orientations, and members of the 2SLGBTQAI+ community, as well as diverse family structures, abilities, neurodiversities, and body sizes. We welcome people from all backgrounds and experiences, and we honour the unique identities, strengths, and stories that each person brings. At Anchor, we are dedicated to continuously learning from diverse voices and perspectives, and to helping our clients feel seen and respected.
Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that our work at Anchor takes place on the unceded, traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation. For countless generations, the Algonquin people have lived, cared for, and gathered on this land, which includes the Ottawa River watershed. We honour their ongoing relationship with this land and commit to fostering healing, respect, and understanding in our work.
